Antibiotics Alert
Babies who are given antibiotics within the first six months of life face a significantly increased risk of developing asthma and allergies by the time they reach six years of age.
Researchers at the Yale School of Public Health found that infants who were exposed to antibiotics during the first six months of life were up to 52 percent more likely to develop childhood asthma and allergies than other children.
The results of the study were published in the December 29, 2010, issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
