A Revamped Website
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 11:20AM I first launched having-a-baby.com back in 1999, when the first edition of The Unofficial Guide to Having a Baby was being published.
Twelve years and twenty-something books later, the website was long overdue for a revamp. And the imminent launch of the second Canadian edition of The Mother of All Pregnancy Books gave me just the nudge I needed to give the website the attention it deserved a long time ago.
So what will you find on this new-and-improved website?
Improved navigation! If you're looking for articles related to preconception, fertility and infertility, pregnancy, birth, life after baby, babies, toddlers and preschoolers, and parenting, you'll discover that each category of articles has its own section. I've linked to articles that I've written for other websites as well as articles that are hosted right here at having-a-baby.com. And, if you take a peek in the media section, you can find some of the interviews, I've done over the years with media outlets as varied as Good Housekeeping, The New York Times, and Today's Parent.
All kinds of new content! I have hundreds of articles related to pregnancy and parenting sitting on my hard-drive. These articles will be migrating to this website in batches. And as each batch of new articles is posted, I'll be announcing what's new via this blog.
This new blog! An easier way for me to carry on conversations with parents and other who are passionate about parenting-related issues. I've missed having a blog. Ever since The Mother of All Parenting Blogs at ParentCentral.ca morphed into The Mother of All Baby Columns for The Toronto Star, I've been essentially blogless -- for the first time since 2004. (That's when I joined the blogosphere for the very first time.) There have been so many times when I've been ready to type up a post about something -- but I've had no place to blog. Now I have a new home for those posts about parenting issues that don't have a home anywhere else.
If you explore the site a little, you'll see that I've provided you with links to a few of my favourite blogs (I'm sure this list will grow as I get back into blogging again) and some of the pregnancy and parenting resources I tend to turn to again and again. That should get you started, for now. (Like all websites, this one is a work-in-progress. I'll be adding new content to every page on an ongoing basis. If I waited for it to be complete, I'd never hit the publish button on this site.)
Oh yeah: I've also included some information on some of the other things I do, other than writing books, just in case you are interested. You'll find this type of information (speaking to groups, developing and teaching classes) as well as a contact link, a search tool, my book list, my bio, a list of my key partnerships, and a list of upcoming events on the very top of the page.
So enjoy what I have so far and let me know what you'd like to see me add as having-a-baby.com 2.0 evolves.
